I feel like eyelash extensions are a great example of a beauty enhancement that can either look amazing or terrifying (the same goes for fake tanning or hair extensions). I’ve seen so many girls with beautiful, natural looking eyelash extensions but an equal number whose were pointing all different directly and falling out everywhere.
But last week I decided to take the plunge and try them out for myself. So far I have really enjoyed having them. They looks stunning and give me that “my lashes but better” look that I was going for. The picture above is with zero make or curling; I just woke up and brushed them with a spooley. I like them most like this, with no makeup on, because they really stand out and make me look awake and refreshed. I especially like them at the gym because it looks like I have makeup on but I don’t. But there have been some unexpected things I have learned along the way as well. Here are four things I learned about eyelash extensions:
They take about two hours to apply. You will have to lay on a table for two hours with your eyes closed and your lower lashes taped down during this time. You cannot get up or really move at all during this process so if you have a hard time sitting still this wouldn’t work for you.
They have their own set of rules. You cannot get your eyes wet for 24 hours after the application (which can be tough to schedule). And you cannot use any type of oil-based product on your eyes while you have the extensions because it breaks down the glue. So if you are like me and like to use an oil-based beauty balm to remove makeup it will take some adjustment.
Eye makeup becomes a little bit of a challenge. Getting shadows close the your lash line can be difficult and I have found applying eyeliner to be near impossible. You also can’t wear mascara which I really miss because I’m so used to it completing my look and making my lashes a little darker.
Washing your face/lashes is difficult. You can definitely feel the lashes on your eyes when you touch them and they are a little bit delicate so you can’t really wipe your eyes. So I’ve found that when my face gets wet, my lashes get soaked, and I can’t really wipe them off for fear of poking myself in the eye or loosing some lashes so I end up getting a lot of water in my eyes.
Overall I think I would get them again. Eyelash extensions would be perfect for a special occasion, a vacation, or if you don’t wear a lot of eye makeup. I’m just not sure if they are super practical for 24/7 wear.
I’ve never been one to carry a huge purse or a huge wallet. I like small to medium sized bags and I carry only the essentials. This makes it easier to find things when I really need them. Here are the items that I currently carry in my purse:
Wallet: A small wallet just big enough for my cards and some cash. I only carry two credit cards, my Costco card, and my ID. This way when I am at the register I’m not digging through a ton of cards looking for the right one.
Hand Sanitizer: I like to carry a hand sanitizer that contains aloe so it doesn’t dry out my hands. Hand sanitizer can also be hard on acrylic nails, but I’ve found that the Purell brand does not damage my nails.
Sunglasses: I always have a casual/versatile pair of sun glasses in my purse. They especially come in handy when I’m n0t wearing makeup. I especially love aviator style glasses. These are Michael Kors and I purchased them at Nordstrom.
Hair Brush: I brush my hair way too many times during the day. I’m that person who will brush their hair at a restaurant or while driving my car. I can’t stand the feeling of having knots in my hair so I always have a brush on hand.
Snack: I try to always keep a non-perishable, semi-healthy snack in my bag. This keeps me from wasting money on unhealthy food when I’m on the run. These Fig Bars are yummy and fill me up.
Lips: Obviously the lip products that I have in my purse depend on the look I’m wearing that day. However I do always keep Neutrogena chapstick (unscented), Buxom “White Russian” gloss, and a ColorPop Lippie stick with me at all times. All of these products are moisturizing and can be work with or without makeup.
Contact Lense Re-Wetting Drops: I used to always carry my prescription glasses with me just incase my eyes started bothering me but they were bulky and I hardly ever needed them. Re-wetting drops are so much more convenient. If my eyes get dry or scratchy during the day I can easily drop these in and I’m good to go.
I recently dyed my hair much darker and I am loving it! But because my hair is now dark and my skin is light I feel like I have to have lipstick on every day to complete my look. Luckily there are so many great lipstick options on the market right now. Here are my four favorite lipsticks right now.
Anastasia Beverly Hills- Liquid Lipstick- Pure Hollywood– The ABH liquid lipsticks are my favorite formula on the market right now. They dry so smooth and last for hours. I love to apply them, let them dry for 30 seconds and then apply a gloss over them. Pure Hollywood is a perfect brownish-nude shade.
NARS- Velvet Lip Glide- Unlaced– NARS recently came out with this new Velvet Lip Glide formula it is a very unique formula that is a hybrid between a lipstick and a lipgloss. It is not long wearing but is so hydrating and easy to apply. If you are intimidated by highly pigmented matte lip products or are looking for something soft and natural these are a great option. The shade Unlaced is very neutral color that is wonderful for light skin tones.
MAC- Lipstick- Velvet Teddy– MAC lipsticks are great because they are somewhat inexpensive ($17), come in a million colors, are creamy, and pigmented. The shade Velvet Teddy is a beautiful reddish-brown. It matches tons of eye looks and during fall/winter I wear this at least once a week. Kat Von D- Everlasting Liquid Lipstick- Lolita II– Kat Von D products always have the most beautiful packaging and the liquid lipsticks are no exception. I always feel like such a bad a$$ when I take this out of my purse. The shade Lolita II is a vampy, rich, maroon color and it looks beautiful with my new dark hair. These liquid lipsticks are extremely matte and long-wearing but can be somewhat drying.
I’ve always wanted to try out one of these Makeup Erasers and see if they really do remove makeup so when I saw this cute little heart shaped one pop up as part of a Pre-Black Friday sale on Sephora I knew I had to try it. This mini one was only $10 and is limited edition (full-size is $20). The Makeup Eraser claims to remove makeup with only warm water and last for a thousand washes.
I was actually really surprised how well the cloth did! I was wearing a full face of makeup and I only applied water to the eraser, no face cleaner or makeup remover at all. And it removed at least 80% of the makeup. I was especially impressed at how well it removed mascara and eyeshadow; when I used my eye makeup remover afterwards there was hardly anything left over. I think this product would be great for travel or if you have skin that is very sensitive to cleansers and makeup removers.
My only complaint it that it says you only need to wash the cloth one time a week, which is clearly not true, the thing was completely covered in makeup when I was done (this one is smaller than the original). In order to use this every day you would probably have to buy two or three of them and alternate them.
One of my greatest joys in life is trying out new products. I visit the “Just Arrived” section of Sephora.com at least one a day looking for the new best thing; so it is rare that I re-purchase the same product more than once. But there are five products that I always repurchase because they are the best of the best!
Urban Decay Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting SprayI use this setting spray everyday that I wear makeup. It adds extra much needed moisture to my thirsty skin and noticeably blends my powder and liquid products together. This spray defiantly also prolongs the wear of my makeup. This was originally a Jaclyn Hill suggestion and I would never purchase anything else.
Brazilian Bum Bum CreamThis product is meant to tighten and smooth the look of skin and I have had some luck using it for that; but this cream really is so much more. It is the perfect combination of quick-absorbing and ultra-moisturizing. The formula is the perfect consistency to make it easy to spread. And the smell is to die for. This cream literally smells like a tropical vacation.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow WizI am a brow fanatic and a victim of waxing my brows too thin when I was in high school so brow products are so important to me. Anastasia hands-down makes the best brow products on the market right now, and the Brow Wiz takes the cake. It is thin enough to do precise brow work but also smooth enough to blend out for a natural look. And the Brow Wiz literally lasts all day.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage ConcealerThis concealer is a cult-classic for a reason. It’s a concealer that is thick enough to cover imperfections but thin enough that it blends out naturally into the skin. And once you set it it lasts all day long without the need for touch-ups. It also comes in a wide variety of shades and the price point it great for the amount of product you get.
MAC Eyeshadow in BambooTo be honest, I don’t even like MAC eyeshadows. I think they are overpriced for the quality and pigmentation that you get. There are much better eyeshadow brands on the market. But MAC Bamboo is the exception! I start every eye look I do with this shadow. It is the perfect base or transition shade on my skin. It is creamy and blends like a dream. If you can’t get the gradient, blended look on your eye looks give Bamboo a try.
Recently I’ve been trying to re-vamp my skincare routine. I’ve been purchasing some products that are a little more expensive and a little more geared towards anti-aging. The DERMAdoctor skincare line is very popular, especially on YouTube, so purchased their Wrinkle Revenge Antioxidant Enhanced Glycolic Acid Facial Cleaner.
Immediate results after first use.
Glass bottle with pump
6 ounces of product, and only a small amount is needed for each application.
Safe and Effective way to apply Glycolic Acid
I would not really consider this product a cleanser; I would consider this a treatment or almost a mask. It has to be used on dry skin which makes it difficult to use in the shower. And in my experience it doesn’t really remove heavy makeup, like eyeliner or mascara. So if I have a full face of makeup on I clean my face with a cleansing oil, dry it off completely, and then apply this product. I don’t really mind doing this; but for some people this could be a deal breaker.
This cleanser is unlike anything I’ve ever used. After just three days of using it I’ve noticed a huge difference in how clear my skin is and how much less texture I have. I think the key ingredient in this product is the Glycolic Acid which releases and dissolves dead skin cells. The molecules in this type of acid are so small that they actually penetrate the skins surface layer. If you want to step your skincare game up, PURCHASE THIS CLEANSER!
